A Prayer - To Myself From My Self

By Hedley Derenzie

And so the night has fallen

The grey clouds clear their path

Another moon has risen

As another day has passed

And what has this day taught you

In a life with much to learn?

I hear my Self ask knowingly

As there’s still so much I yearn

And silently I contemplate

The method of my day

And to my Self I question

“Could there be another way?”

Fear not the truth that lies within

From which you run and hide

Have faith and listen to the Self

And let it be your guide

I ask how one can do this

In confusion and self-doubt

And sure enough, I hear again

The voice inside speak out

You are your thoughts, your words, your deeds

You are your energy

You are the boundless ocean

You are beautiful and free

You are your wealth, your work, your place

Your secrets and ideas

You are the pains that your heart aches

Your worries and your fears

You are the air you breathe for life

You are the love you give

You are a dream, a laugh, a cry

You are this life your live

You are the sun, the moon, the stars

You are this precious earth

You are unique and special

You are the miracle of birth

Know this and you will fear no more

For all is within you

Know also that these words are yours

And they are what is true

I ask how I can be these things -

The earth, the skies, the sun?

Because my child, my Self replies

Everything is One

So treat yourself with kindness

Train your broken heart to give

Open your eyes to beauty

Learn to bless this life you live

I listen to these words my Self

Bestowed on me this night

And I know this day has taught me

To be thankful for this life

And as my prayers grow quiet

And I drift away to sleep

I hear my Self say softly

May this truth be yours to keep.
